Dystopian Cast Eyes: Sterling Silver Necklace

This bold, modernist inspired necklace is a striking handmade piece of art. Seen from a bird’s-eye view, the squares in the mesh backing represent the cookie-cutter skyscrapers of the darkened urban jungle, intersected by a barren river that was once teeming with vitality. Above the dystopian city below, a meteor flashes across the sky, noticed only by those willing to lift their gaze. It is the depiction of a subdued community that is disconnected from the vast expanse above, neglecting the potential of the universe and forgetting how to dream. Viewed from the meteor’s height, it brings perspective to how small our existence is and recognizes the boundaries of our limited perspectives. This necklace is fully hand fabricated in sterling and fine silver. The meteor is fabricated as a hollowform to lighten the weight of the pendant, and is securely supported by the frame of the city boundaries below. The meteor itself is a unique botryoidal hematite, bezel set in fine silver. Botryoidal hematite mineral textures are formed by layers of iron growing on a host material, through a process called crystal nucleation, forming spheres that slowly grow and overlap with each other, creating the otherworldly texture you see here.
The pendant is suspended at 18” by a distinctively textured, handmade bar chain. A specially crafted spring clasp, designed for continuity of style, ensures secure fastening of the necklace.
